English-100 Assignment #3: Film-Based Assignment The Sixth Sense, written by M. Night Shyamalan, is about Cole Sear, a young boy who claims he can “see dead people”. While this is going on Dr. Malcom Crowe, a child psychologist comes and begins speaking to the boy about him seeing ghosts. For Cole seeing ghosts is very frightening and everyone around him questions why he is frightened since they cannot see what he sees. Lynn Sear, Cole’s mother, at first has no idea why Cole acts like this from time to time. She originally doesn’t believe him about seeing ghosts, but later she eventually catches on. Personally I feel that Lynn, even with at first not believing in her child, is a good mother for Cole as she has stuck with him and tried to help Cole in any way she could. Although people don’t understand what Cole goes through, they try to help Cole in any way they can. Dr. Malcom Crowe is the main person that helps Cole Through the majority of the film. Since he is a psychologists he understands better than others on ways that can show some relief to Cole with him seeing dead people. Out of all the people that Cole sees, Dr. Malcom Crowe is one of them. The surprise to the movie is that he is one of the people that only Cole would notice. Even though Dr. Malcom Crowe is dead the entire time he still manages to help Cole out with seeing the dead and changed Coles thoughts about it in a more positive way. Lynn does not fully understand what Cole is going through but she still shows her care for Cole through and through. For the moments Cole is in a panic, Lynn would be there for him. The only problem Lynn had was she just couldn’t understand what was happening. But that didn’t necessarily matter since Cole was her son. Once Dr. Malcom Crowe came she had tried to understand it better through what he knew. Another thing for Lynn is that she is willing to help Cole find possible Solutions to what he is going through. One is Dr. Malcom Crowe. As a child psychologist, he has a better idea then Lynn on how to help Cole handle what he is going through. During the movie, Crowe starts to show Lynn some ways on understanding how to help Cole while he notices people who in reality is not there for his mother. Because people don’t understand what Cole is going through it makes it harder for them to help Cole even though they’re trying their best. Lynn had done what she could at her best to help Cole although it didn’t have any effect on helping Cole before Dr. Malcom Crowe came. Dr. Malcom Crowe did show some understanding of what Cole is going through and had started to change Cole in a more positive way. Along with helping Cole, Dr. Crowe had also helped Lynn with how she can look over Cole while he notices dead people.

In the film “The Sixth Sense” there is a young boy who apparently can see dead people while everyone around him can’t. His mother has no idea what is going on with him so she has Malcom Crowe, a psychologist, check on him. Crowe try’s his best to understand the child and help him the best he can. Later, the boy starts to understand better on what’s happening in his life with all this and sees it differently than before. As Crowe is spending time trying to help the boy with what he’s going through, he eventually runs into an ex-patient that he had in the past. This patient has not been cured and has found Crowe and shot Crowe and himself. Critique: I have never heard of this movie before and find it to be a really good movie. For the kid, I can’t tell if he’s seeing things as though they are ghosts or if he happens to have a mental disorder. This has been a real interesting movie that I recommend to some people I know that enjoy movies, like this one. |
